Noiseash has released Sweetcase, a freeware sample based vintage electric piano virtual instrument for VST/AU plugin compatible host applications on Windows and Mac OS.

This is a sample-based virtual instrument made with Maize Sampler. Unlike most Maize Sampler creations on the market, though, this one provides some rather useful tone controls (bass boost and bell volume) which are probably achieved using some clever sample layering within the instrument. Apart from these two tone control parameters, the user can also change the modulation speed and intensity (as well as choose between volume, balance and pitch modulation), the amount of added reverb and the output volume.

Sweetcase is a virtual instrument plug-in that takes your electric piano parts very easy level and realistic right in your computer, with warm and professional sound.

In terms of sound, Sweetcase won’t blow you away with its incredible realism, or crazy amounts of available velocity layers and round robins. That said, it doesn’t sound terrible either. Far from it. Besides, it has other qualities – it’s free, it’s easy to use and it’s more than appropriate for use in certain styles of music. You’ll probably notice a subtle dusty, vintage vibe (especially when you turn up the bell samples) which may or may not work for you, depending on your needs. I could see myself using this in a hip hop project, or drenched in loads of reverb in a slow electronica track.

Since there aren’t too many controls to play around with, this plugin can be quite useful to have in situations when you just want to quickly plug and play an electric piano in your DAW and start jamming. Being a sample-based instrument, Sweetcase is also quite easy on the CPU resources and won’t affect the overall performance of your digital audio workstation. The sound is certainly not the greatest, but it is good enough for sketching out new projects, or for using as a background instrument in a mix.

Please note that you will need to follow Noiseash on either Facebook, Twitter or YouTube in order to download a free copy of Sweetcase. You will also be asked to enter your email address (the email doesn’t need to be verified prior to downloading, though). The downloaded RAR archive contains an EXE installer, so you’ll need to go through an installation procedure before launching the plugin for the first time.

A Synthedit VST plugin from Plugindex German website : it has a clean sound, i think it’s based on a soundfont / wav bank. It’s very usable. Unlike the other “classic” emulations, it features a vibrato effect instead of a tremolo effect, it’s strange but that makes unusual sounds!
